Joe Biden was raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and New Castle County, Delaware. He earlier studied at the University of Delaware before going further to earn his law degree in 1968 from Syracuse University.

His first political position was in 1970 when he was elected a New Castle County Councillor. in 1972, he was elected to the U.S. Senate from Delaware to become the sixth-youngest senator in American history. Biden before becoming the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was a longtime member.

Biden was a strong opposition in the 1991 Gulf War, but supported expanding the NATO alliance into Eastern Europe and its intervention in the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s. Even though he supported the resolution authorizing the Iraq War in 2002, he also opposed the surge of U.S. troops in 2007.

He was the chairman of the US Senate Judiciary Committee from 1987 to 1995, dealing with drug policy, crime prevention, and civil liberties issues before he was reelected to the Senate six times.

When he resigned to serve as Barack Obama’s vice president in 2008, he was the fourth-most senior senator. He served as vice president under Obama after Obama was reelected in 2012.

As vice president, Biden was in-charge of infrastructure spending in 2009 which helped to counteract the Great Recession. His negotiations with congressional Republicans helped pass legislation including the 2010 Tax Relief Act, which resolved a taxation deadlock; the Budget Control Act of 2011, which resolved a debt ceiling crisis; and the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, which addressed the impending “fiscal cliff”.

 

In order to honour Biden for his numerous contributions, Obama in January 2017, awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom with distinction.

Like every normal human being, Biden continues to dream big that in April 2019, he announced his candidacy in the 2020 presidential election. In June 2020, he reached the required delegate threshold which is needed to secure the Democratic nomination and was nominated.

Biden due to his zeal to succeed and become the 46th US president, announced U.S. Senator Kamala Harris of California as his running mate on August 11 2020.
