Go to “Use two-factor authentication,” and click “Edit.”
Choose which method you want to use, follow the on-screen instructions, and click “Enable.”

If you’re ever unable to use your phone, you can generate a few recovery codes. Here’s how:

Go to “Security and Login.”
Under “Use two-factor authentication,” scroll to “Recovery Codes,” and click on “Get Recovery Codes.”
Enter your password, and write down the generated codes on a piece of paper or in a notebook. We don’t recommend keeping them on your computer.

Use App Passwords

Essentially, they are one-time passwords which you can use to log into various apps without jeopardizing your personal Facebook password. In case you have 2FA enabled, you won’t need to receive a code when you use an app password.

To get an app password, just follow these steps:

Head over to the “Security and Login” section.
Scroll down to “Use two-factor authentication,” and click “Edit.”
Go to “App Passwords,” and click on “Generate.”
Afterwards, just follow the instructions provided by Facebook.
Whenever you log out of your apps, be sure to generate a new password since Facebook doesn’t save them.

Use Login Notifications

Login notifications alert you when somebody tries logging into your account with a device or web browser Facebook doesn’t recognize. The notifications will tell you when the login attempt took place, and where it came from.

Here’s how to set this up:

Go to the “Security and Login” section.
Click on “Edit” next to “Get alerts about unrecognized logins.”
Choose how you want to receive the notifications, and click “Save Changes.”
Make sure to add devices and browsers you use from time to time to the list of trusted and recognized browsers and devices so that you don’t have to deal with unnecessary alerts.

Use One-Time Passwords

If there’s ever a time you don’t want to log into your Facebook account using the real password, you can use a one-time password instead.

Here’s how to get one:

If you’re in the US, you need to text 32665 with the message “otp.”

Once you do that, you’ll receive a text message with a unique 6-character code. And in case the mobile number you’re using isn’t linked to your Facebook account, you’ll receive an email that details what you have to do to receive the code.
Keep in mind the code is temporary. Also, you can’t use this feature if 2FA is enabled.
Set Up Trusted Accounts
Basically, trusted contacts are people you trust (friends and family), who will be able to help you out if you’re ever locked out of your Facebook account. They’ll have the ability to send you a recovery code alongside an URL which you can use to log back into your account.

Here’s how to set up trusted accounts:

Go to “Security and Login.”
Click on “Choose 3 to 5 friends to contact if you get locked out.”
Choose the friends you trust, and follow Facebook’s instructions.
If you ever want to remove a friend from being a trusted account, just click on “Edit.”
